Reader Question:
As an American residing Canada for over 20 years, personally i think Canadians are far more prepared for interracial dating/marriage than Us citizens. You becoming the alternative, a Canadian residing the States, do you have the exact same observance? Why is this very?
-Keith (Canada)
Dr. Wendy Walsh’s response:
I notice what you are stating but the research doesn’t apparently support your own thesis. In accordance with a 2010 Pew analysis, 8 % people marriages are interracial, while Statistics Canada states that about 4 percent of Canadian marriages are interracial.
Nearly all of those marriages are with one Asian partner. Next class probably to enter into an interracial relationship is actually Latino. I believe your own concern might discussing the social acceptance of black and white unions and there I am able to just offer anecdotal evidence from personal expertise. (my personal children are multiracial: African-American-Irish-Canadian.)
In huge western and northern American metropolitan areas, the social recognition of interracial dating feels comparable as Canada. In smaller communities, rural locations plus some southern states, where the history of historic clashes is frequently still passed on through family members systems, here seems to be much less assistance.
But instances are switching almost everywhere and most people believe really love can grow between any a couple.
